A tree has been planted in Lakeside for George. The Pavillion by the lake is available for shelter if needed. Come spend the whole day, or an hour or two with many artists and friends of George. Bring food to share or just to enjoy.

ArtScene presents: George Morrison

Free Wednesday at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art
May 24, 2006; 6-7 PM

As an architect, George Morrison has more than 25 years of professional practice experience with an emphasis in historic preservation.

In 2003, Morrison re-kindled the affinity for ceramics he discovered in the 1970s, and states he uses clay “as a vehicle to explore form, structure, decoration, volume and space. I treat the clay as an architectural medium by “drawing” on the surface with drafting tools and by assembling extruded, molded, thrown and slab formed elements as building blocks.”

His two media combine in his ceramic style to form an intricate dialog between the functional and the beautiful, intersecting and expanded forms, and the desire to produce objects which are not easily identified with a specific time.

Morrison has exhibited at Charlie Cummings Clay Studio, Artlink, the University of St. Francis and Lubeznik Center for the Arts, as well as featured as an emerging artist in Ceramics Monthly.

Fort Wayne photographers' work on display in Poland

Sister City Images

Exhibit Dates: May 7 – 21, 2006

Where: Plock Photographic Society, Zielinski Library, Plock, Poland

Photographs by some of Fort Wayne’s best known photographers will soon be on display in Plock, Poland, a Fort Wayne sister city. The exhibition will consist of approximately 30 photographs representing life in the Midwest and other subjects. The photos will be on display in the Zielinski Library, Plock, Poland as part of the Polish city’s summer celebration, Great European Picnic.

Some of the artists included in the exhibition are Karen Thompson, AnnMarie LeBlanc, Cara Wade, Stephen Perfect, Steve Vorderman, Deb Washler, Ellie Bogue, Gary Inglese, Rob Borel, Christopher Crawford, Steve Linsenmayer, Gloria Diaz and Cathie Rowand.

"This is the first time we've been able to organize an exchange involving images of life in our respective sister cities and we are confident that such photographs will bring our cities to a higher level of understanding and acceptance of how we all live work and play," said Stanley Podzielinski, chair of the Plock Committee who spearheaded the exhibition for the Sister Cities organization. Podzielinski will deliver the photographs to Plock and attend the festivities on May 5. Plans are underway for a return show of 40 photographs by Plock artists to be exhibited in Fort Wayne later this summer.

Sister Cities International began in 1956 with a proposal from President Dwight D. Eisenhower. It is a not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to promote international friendship and understanding. Fort Wayne became a member of Sister Cities International in 1976 when an agreement was signed with the government of Takaoka, Japan. Sisterhood with Plock, Poland was signed in 1990 and with Gera, Germany in 1992. Hundreds of cultural exchange programs have taken place over the years, including high school exchange programs, folk song and dance ensembles, Boy Scout troop visits, and many official government and corporate visits. Long-time friendships have developed and understanding between cultures has been broadened.

Art Smart After Dark
Fort Wayne Museum of Art
Wednesday, May 3, 2006
7-8:00 PM

FREE

Art in the 20 th century was dominated, and often defined, by Abstraction. However, the past few decades have seen a resurgence in a return to the object. Could Realism be the future of 21 st century art? The answer may lie in the earliest origins and evolution of Realism in art.

Don't miss ART SMART AFTER DARK featuring Dr. Esperanca Camara, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of St. Francis, and FWMoA Executive Director Charles Shepard, as they discuss & debate the evolution, complexity and diversity of Classical and Contemporary Realism!
Dixie Bradley exhibiting at National City
I will be exhibiting paintings in the lobby of the National City Bank branch at Village at Coventry for the month of May.
